Hi Suze, I am back from a beautiful trip to England with my Mom and daughter. We called it the generations trip! (29, 55, and 80)
Our last stop was the White Cliffs of Dover. What an amazing place. We walked on the top through the footpaths and âoff pisteâ trails to the most spectacular views and I consciously did not take any pictures until we were on our way back. I wanted to be in the moment without a phone constantly in my face creating a physical barrier to the scenery before me. This was quite a challenge for me as I am weak memory holder and often my memories of the past are only from photographs. I think back to the 500 pics of this trip that I, nor any friends, will ever see in their entirety. Who needs 500 pics! Will I frame each one? Print them all in a book? Remember when we had only a film camera roll of 24 photos so we needed to be very judicious and select only what we think we wanted as a memory. We would hope no red eye, partial thumbs, blurring, or sun glare would ruin the shot! After development proudly show our 20 photos that were clear to our friends, stick them in an album, or perhaps even reprint one larger to frame?
How does this relate to your introduction⌠( suggestions only) I would replace the quotes here with an anecdote from Gen X to juxtapose your points about the Genâs who have always known tech. The generations information would follow.
The introduction of your design for living would be next with less of an abrupt change in style. I would also insert the title of RESETME at the beginning of this discussion of your toolkit.
I hope this helps. If you choose to disregard any or all I am fine as I am not an author, editor, or expert in such things.
1) Ditch the quotes - Teen, âBut youâre always on your phone.â
You, âIâm answering work emails. Itâs different.â (Note: thatâs an outright lie 90% of the time)
2) Add the juxtaposition of Gen X here/next?
3) Move the RESETME breakdown to near the top - above or below the picture? Before or after this bit
"The RESETME⢠method gives us a circuit breaker and allows us to reclaim our time and attention. Itâs a gentle attention rebellion. Itâs an adjustment to get back into real-life community, face-to-face communication and fulfilling connections."
Hi there, the quotes to eliminate (in my opinion) are the ones at the very start from Einstein and Das. As you started preface with two quotes I think these get lost here. Good quotes perhaps save them for later.
I think starting with an anecdote from a Gen X era experience at the start of introduction instead of the Einstein and Das quotes.
After youâve written your anecdote move this part next⌠âThe RESETME methodâŚâ to/and include picture.
Then it should flow hopefully with the rest of your introduction.
The cliffs are spectacular. Goodness, the point you make is too true. I loaded 80 photos on Facebook of my trip to Wellington. I'll never look at them all again! I barely look at the ones in my OneDrive. They're nowhere near as satisfying as looking through old-fashioned albums.
Great point about the Gen X experience.
And I value all you're doing with me. I made adjustments to the Preface based on what you said. I feel very blessed to have you in my corner.
I see so much of myself in this and i know that Iâm not setting a good example and could do better. Iâve noticed that my almost 12 year old is starting to become more attached to his phone too so Iâll be following this closely. Great writing as always Suzanne. Looking forward to coming along for the ride and making some positive changes
This is such an amazing idea! I see it everywhere....we are more connected to our phones than to what is happening around us. Being part of Generation X allows me to see the before and after, and I believe everyone needs what you are discussing, not just children. I can't wait to continue reading!

Keep it up! I am loving this!

Happy to help. đ
Aw, how wonderful. I can imagine you all!

Thank you for your honesty. Please share as much as you feel about your thoughts and experiences, it's very helpful to me.
And having you here means the world. It's a lonely endeavour, writing solo, so this helps so so much.
Dear Suze,
Remember you are a very good writer.
Remember your tender heart that writes to help.
Remember you are a perfectly flawed human and write.
Remember all those who support you- feel our hands reach across oceans to encourage you.

Love it!
Heading to Canada tomorrow. Iâll give it another read at home and give feedback. First quick read- đ
